Finance & Entrepreneurship Seminar 2026
Date: 20th May 2026
Venue: The ICIJ Hall, Tokyo
Organized by: Indian Commerce and Industry Association Japan

On May 20th, the Finance and Entrepreneurship working group within the ICIJ Youth Group hosted a seminar on personal taxation and investment basics for young professionals working in Japan. The event drew strong interest, with approximately 40 participants attending this event. The turnout was great and the room energy was excellent.
We had two outstanding speakers: Mr. Atsunori Tsujimura and Mr. Manjul Agrawal, both of whom brought deep expertise in Japan's tax system and personal investment landscape. Their talks covered practical insights for young professionals and newcomers looking to better understand life, work, and finances in Japan. The seminar covered essential topics including Japan’s individual taxation system, tax return filing obligations, income deductions, Furusato Nozei, NISA, and the fundamentals of Japan’s labor law and social insurance system — and the audience resonated deeply with the workshop content.
Questions came fast and thoughtful: remittances to India and tax deductibility, proving dependent relationships and family lineage for tax purposes, how to structure a business, how to pay yourself as a founder, and how to handle fringe benefits like company cars and housing subsidies. The interactivity showed strong interest in the topic and enthusiasm with the participants.
Kavya Sharma and Karthik Rampalli opened with remarks introducing both the Finance & Entrepreneurship group and ICIJ Youth Group's three-track mission, setting the stage nicely. Mr. Sanjeev Gupta, one of the founding members of the ICIJ Youth Group, delivered the closing remarks and thanked the speakers as well as all the participants. Thanks again to all the participants, the speakers and the whole organizing team for making this event a success.
